Belted Pinstripe Utility Jacket Set & Oversized Monogram Blazer Set

Original price was: Rp76.000.Current price is: Rp74.000.

The belted pinstripe jacket with the olive midi, and the oversized monogram blazer with acid-wash straight jeans. Both shot the same day in the same fitting room. They’re on one page because I keep wearing them out of their own sets anyway.

Product Detail

I nearly didn’t take the pinstripe jacket. On the hanger it hangs like a lab coat that got ambitious, all shoulder and no waist, and I walked past the rail twice before I tried it.

Belted it’s a completely different garment. The tie is self fabric with a round ring buckle, and the second you pull it in, the waist comes back and all that volume in the sleeve finally has a job to do. Worn open and loose it’s fine if you want that dropped shapeless thing. I’d still say buy it for the belt.

The stand collar holds itself up, which I did not expect from a cotton blend at this price, and the flap pockets are deep enough for a phone and keys so I’ve stopped carrying a bag with it. Practical or lazy, take your pick.

A customer asked me if it was “one of those safari jackets” and I said no, and then I went and checked, and she was more right than I was. Saint Laurent put a safari jacket on the runway in 1967, then a one-off made for a Vogue Paris photo-essay the following year turned it into a classic, and by 1969 it was hanging ready-to-wear at Rive Gauche, which the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris lays out with the original sketches. The belt, the flap pockets, the whole cinched-utility idea. Same family.

The skirt is olive-khaki, slim, sits high, ends mid-calf. Stretch twill, so it doesn’t bag out at the knee by four in the afternoon, which is the failure I look for in every fitted skirt before it goes on the floor. Boots in the photo are grey, slouchy, mid-calf. Mine, not part of the set.

The blazer is the easier sell. Charcoal, double-breasted, structured through the shoulder, wide notch lapels. There’s a tonal monogram woven in that only reads in decent light, and under the fitting room bulbs it just looks like good charcoal, which honestly is the point of a tonal anything.

The denim is acid-wash, high-rise, relaxed straight, no stretch in it at all. I fold the cuffs thick because at 5’6″ they’re long on me, and because a heavy turn-up stops a straight leg from puddling over a block heel.

Pink is the part people ask me about. Beanie, crossbody strap, block-heel boots, all of it deliberate against the charcoal. Block heel rather than a thin one because I’m on a shop floor all day, and if heels usually turn on you by hour two, the heel height is often not the thing that’s wrong, which is a whole argument I made in Why Your Stilettos Hurt.

Two looks, one fitting room, one afternoon:

What’s in the capsule

  • Pinstripe utility jacket. Stand collar, front button placket, self-tie belt with ring buckle, two low flap pockets, volume sleeve
  • Olive-khaki midi skirt. High waist, slim fit, stretch twill
  • Monogram blazer. Double-breasted, structured shoulder, notch lapel, flap pockets, tonal woven monogram
  • Acid-wash jeans. High rise, relaxed straight leg, heavy cotton denim, cuffed in the photos
  • Imported

Care. Jacket and skirt go in cold on a gentle cycle and come out to line dry, because heat is what kills the crisp hand of a pinstripe cotton and there’s no getting it back. Blazer is dry clean. The denim I wash inside out, cold, and as rarely as I can stand. I ran a pair of my own through a warm cycle once and lost a good amount of the fade, and it never came back the same.

Size & Fit

The jacket runs oversized through shoulder and sleeve and is built to be belted, so take your normal size and don’t try to size down into shape. It won’t work.

The skirt is the one I’d think about. It’s slim through the hip and cut close, so if you’re between two sizes go up, and if you carry width through the thigh, go up regardless of what the chart says. I’ve had it come back for that more than once.

Blazer is a true oversized cut. Normal size for the look in the photo, one down if you want it sitting closer.

Denim has no stretch, so it fits the way it fits on day one. Take your normal size.

I’m 5’6″ and wear a size S on top and a 26 in the denim. Skirt length 31″ and jacket body length 27″ on the S.

How to Measure

Bust. Around the fullest part of the chest, tape level under the arms.

Waist. Around the narrowest part of the torso, usually just above the navel. For the high-rise denim, measure where you actually want the waistband to sit, not where a low-rise jean would land.

Hip. Feet together, around the fullest part, roughly 8 inches below the waist. This is the one that matters for the skirt.

Inseam. From the crotch seam down the inside of the leg to where you want the hem. A thick turn-up on the denim takes off about 2 inches.

Shoulder. Straight across the back, seam to seam. Worth doing for the blazer, since an oversized shoulder still has to land somewhere sensible.
